How to Use V+~고 싶어요.(I want to [+verb])

 

SAMPLE SENTENCES
 
→  저는 자동차를 사고 싶어요
      (I want to buy a car.)
 
→  그녀는 아이스크림을 먹고 싶어요.
      (She wants to eat some ice cream.)


EXPLANATION:
V+~고 싶어요  is used to express an action someone wants or desires to do.


To use "~고 싶다/~고 싶어요’ = take of the ending -다  of a verb then attach the pattern "~고 싶다/~고 싶어요’

(It doesn't matter whether the verb stem has 받침 or not. just add "~고 싶다/~고 싶어요’ )

ex: 먹다 (to eat) = + 고 싶어요  (먹고 싶어요.  want to eat)

      쉬다 (to rest) = + 고 싶어요  (쉬고 싶어요. want to rest)


SAMPLE CONVERSTATION:

Hyejin: 엄마, 오늘 저녁밥은 뭐예요?
            (Mom, What's our dinner today?)
 Mom: 아직 준비 못했는데, 배가 고프니?
           (I couldn't prepare anything yet, are you hungry?)

Hyejin: 네, 좀 배가 고파요.
             (Yes, I'm quite hungry.)

Mom: 그래? 그럼 지금 준비할게. 뭐 먹고 싶어?
           (Really? Then, I'll prepare now. What do you want to eat?)

Hyejin: 김치볶음밥 먹고 싶어요.
            (I want to eat fried rice with kimchi.)

Mom: 알았어.
            (OK)

VOCABULARY LIST
자동차  - car
먹다 - to eat
쉬다 - to rest
저녁밥 - dinner
준비하다 - prepare
배가 고프다 - to be hungry
볶음밥 - fried rice
